Created in 1948, the RAR Chair forms part of a series of mass-producible, single piece moulded plastic chairs designed by husband and wife team Charles and Ray Eames. This piece has the same ergonomically designed seat as the DSW, DAR, DAW and DSR chairs, but is defined by the different base and armrest style. The RAR Chair was originally intended as a stylish and comfortable nursing chair; its deep seat, high back and curved arms were designed to support the body while the rocking soothed the baby to sleep. But the chair was far too popular to stay in the nursery and quickly became a mainstream favorite. The name RAR is a reference to the attributes of the chair – Rocking chair, Armchair with a Rod base.
Our thorough reproduction of this timeless chair is manufactured applying the highest quality materials and most skilled craftsmanship. The curved seat is moulded from fine quality fiberglass and comes in a choice of colors to suit every home. The Eiffel Tower inspired legs are a unique feature of Eames' style of design and offer uniform support for the body's weight. The rockers have a smooth motion and are made of ash wood.
